Wonoka - Cleanskin, Wool Shedding Meat Sheep

The Wonoka Stud commenced as a Wiltshire Horn Sheep Stud. It was the first Wiltshire Horn sheep stud in South Australia and registered its first sheep, purchased from The Harwood’s Victorian-based Bara Simbil Stud in 1993.

Rapid genetic gain has been made following the introduction of performance-recorded sheep from the Clifton Hills Stud (John Bedwell & Trish Ballantyne), Gippsland, Victoria in 1996.

In 1998 we began cross breeding with Perendale ewes from Bob Jolly, South Australia and so began the foundation of the Wiltipoll flock we have today.  Since 1999 we have developed a further three lines of Wiltipoll sheep based on Poll Dorset ewes from the Kentish Downs stud of Rob Martin, (Parawa, SA), White Suffolks from the Leachim Stud at Snowtown, SA and Koonawarra Stud, Angaston SA and White Dorpers from Kaya and Idavale Studs in Western Australia.

Breeding of Wonoka Wiltipolls has been unreleated to other Wiltipoll flocks until 2009, when a Coolamon Park Wiltipoll ram was used for the first time.

The development of the Wonoka Wiltipoll with infusion and selection of high performance bloodlines from each of these studs has produced a highly productive flock.

The Wonoka flock structure now consists of two main bloodlines:

  • Registered Wiltipolls
  • Wiltipoll / White Dorper Composites
